Nominating Committee
Our current Church Women United Nominating Committee is comprised of the following members from every region across the nation. The committee members are part of the CWU Common Council and the Chairman is part of the CWU Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee is responsible for developing a network that will provide opportunities to our talented and qualified sisters in Christ from the local, state, and regional levels to serve in essential leadership roles to drive the mission of CWU for years to come.
Christina Penrose
Nominating Committee Chair (2024-2028);
South Central Region Member (2023-2024)
Mrs. Christina Penrose resides in the Houston, TX area where she and her husband raised their two sons. She is a member of the Walls Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she has served for over 26 years in various capacities including WH&OM Society President, Sunday School Teacher and Secretary. As a member of the Houston CWU Unit, she has hosted the May Friendship Day Celebration for over 12 years.
As a chemical engineer, she is currently the Environmental Affairs Manager in chemical manufacturing and continues to support and provide leadership for several industry, community, and church boards.

Antonell K. Aikens-Thompson
Mid-Atlantic Region Member (2022-2026)
Historian, Greater Washington CWU; Financial Secretary, CWU DC Unit Member, African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Howard University BA; University of the District of Columbia MPA 1991 Retired Director of the Secretariat, University of the District of Columbia. Background in federal, state and local government; community organization; public affairs; church administration; records management. Special interests in writing, editing, event planning, women’s issues and administrative procedures.

Cheryl J. Bradshaw
East Central Region Member (2022-2026)
Cheryl Bradshaw is a proud graduate of Michigan State University and Spring Arbor University. A devoted and active member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, Cheryl has dedicated her life to faith, service, and community. She retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after an impressive career spanning more than 36 years.
Cheryl has also served as the State Secretary of Church Women United in Michigan, contributing her leadership and passion to advancing the movement’s mission. Her commitment to empowering women and fostering unity continues to inspire those around her.

Martha Bray
Southeast Region Member (2023-2028)
Martha Bray graduated from Mississippi Valley State University and Vicksburg Business College and retired as an Office Manager with the Mississippi State Department of Health. She is an active member of Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church where she is a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Young Adult Advisor and Dean of Records.
She is also active and serves as an officer in both the Washington County General Baptist Association and Women’s Auxiliary. Martha is a Past President and member of CWU Greenville/Washington County Unit in addition to her role on the National CWU Nominating Committee.

Hazel Christopher
Central Region Member (2021-2025)
Hazel Christopher attends Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Appleton WI where she is Co-chair of our United Women in Faith (UWF). She serves on the district UWF nominating committee. She is a YoMiCa coordinator for the conference UWF. Monthly, she works with her church helping serve meals at the Salvation Army. She is a member of chapter DY P.E.O. where she serves on the education committee. She serves on the local CWU unit, working with program planning and site locations. She is chair of the nominating committee for the WI state CWU. This is her last year on the Nominating Committee. She has learned more about CWU and is grateful for having had the opportunity to serve God through CWU.

Sheila Davis
Northeast Region Member (2021-2025)
Sheila Davis retired from the New York Transit Authority and serves as a member of the NY Statewide Senior Action Council, Inc. She is a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Brooklyn N. Y. where she serves as Trustee Board Chairperson. Sheila has been a very active member of the Brooklyn Unit Church Women United where she currently serves as the President.

Karil Drake Starleaf
Southwest Region Member (2023 -2027)
Mrs. Karil Drake Starleaf resides in the Los Angeles area where she enjoys the combined families of her new husband which now includes 4 children with spouses and 4 grandchildren.
She is a member of Salem Lutheran church (ELCA), Glendale, CA where she has served for 22 years helping in the leadership of the Women’s board and its regional leadership. She has been a Sunday school teacher. She is a member of the PEO sorority and has served in chapter, regional and state positions. She has served on the Church Women United state board as editor and secretary. She had served on the Glendale CWU unit board for 20 years and now has joined the Foothill unit. She had worked for First Interstate bank as a programmer and systems manager until she became a stay-at-home mother and engaged in many charity works.
