Church Women United to Host Human Rights Celebration

ENID, Okla. — Church Women United of Garfield County will host a Human Rights Celebration 6:15 p.m. Sept. 14 at Enid YWCA, 525 S. Quincy.

The celebration is intended for "individuals and organizations working for justice and human rights," according to a Church Women United (CWU) press release. The theme for the celebration is "Reaching for Wholeness in Solidarity with God's Creation," and the program will be led by women of Grayson Missionary Baptist Church, according to the press release.

The United Nations defines human rights as being inherent to all human beings, whatever nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language or any other status.  "These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible," according to the CWU press release.

"The spirit of this celebration is for all participants to understand the meaning of unity — unity that makes the world whole," the press release stated. "Whereas God gave human beings dominion over the land and all that is in it, God made all the creatures to live in unity."

Cost for the dinner is $7 and reservations are required by Sept. 10 by contacting Gwennette Williams at (580) 237-7901.
